Our Story

Social media and adoption.  Don't get me wrong, I love social media.  It allows one to connect with others half-way across the country that are traveling along a similar journey as you.  It lets us pray for each other, lift each other up, and become educated about the process.  But there is one key word in those sentences that I have learned I must remember.  Similar.  Not the same.

Since deciding to adopt, I've found numerous connections with others via social media.  I've learned a lot about adoption and read some beautiful stories.  Where I have to be careful (and this is just what I've realized about myself) is finding balance in the time I spend getting caught up in them and comparing them to our story.

Their process went so smooth and fast ... they didn't even have to raise money for their adoption ... they raised so much money so easily ... their blog looks better than our's ... they were blessed with twins ... they don't have to work a 40-hr/wk job while pursuing adoption ... why aren't these things happening for us? ...

Or on the other end of the spectrum ...

Their court dates keep getting postponed ... their child got sick ... their adoption is taking so much longer than planned ... what if that happens to us? ... what if it takes months longer than we expect/hope ... worry, worry, worry ...

See what I mean?  This is just me being honest and open on this little blog.  Comparison isn't pretty when you spell it out like that is it?  My prayer tonight,

Lord help me remember that ultimately You know who our son is.
You will keep him safe while he's not here with us.
Your timing is perfect and right, because you see the whole picture.
Help me to continue trusting You.
Let me rejoice with and encourage others along this journey to adopt,
sharing in their stories without comparing them to mine.
Thank you for writing our story,
because it's a beautiful one,
and it's Your story made our's.

And because I can't leave him out of a blog post :) - little man, your mommy and daddy know you will be worth every step of this process, and we are so thankful and blessed that God has chosen us to be your parents.  We wouldn't trade our story, or your story, for anything or anyone else's.

  2. I love this beautiful truth, Megan, and I love reading your blog. God is the author and perfecter of your story, and even before the foundation of the world He has selected the son that you and Brandon will raise.
We loved getting to skype with you guys last night. We'll have to make that a regular thing. And I forgot to thank you for my sweet mother's day card. Made my day!

    1. Thank so much Sarah for your encouragement. It's so easy to get caught up in comparisons, and it's just not healthy! We so enjoyed seeing you all 3 to iChat too :) Excited to see you all face-to-face soon!
